In Krabi Province, the tsunami had destroyed as much as 495 small-scale fishing boats as well as a enormous amount of houses, especially in Phi Phi Island. The second hardest hit in Krabi is Lanta Island where by 83 houses were completely destroyed, 139 houses were partially destroyed and another 23 houses have been trying to relocate since they were located in a tsunami risk prone area. Sine January, the Save Andaman Network has supported the local Krabi Small-Scale Fisherfolk Society in repairing fishing boats and fishing gears for small-scale fisherfolk in 14 villages in 4 Tambons and 2 Ampurs. Additionally, it also support a setting up of 9 boatyards in Moo 7 Ban Sangka U in Tambon Kor Lanta Yai, Ampur Kor Lanta and Moo 2 Ban Kor Pu, Tambon Sriboya, Ampur Nuer Klong. At the moment, The management of community's revolving fund and operation of boatyards is under responsibility of the local small-scale fisher groups.

In Krabi Province, Save Andaman Network has supported the local Small-Scale Fisherfolk Society in Krabi in repairing fishing boats and fishing gears for small-scale fisherfolk in 14 villages in 4 Tambons and 2 Ampurs. Additionally, it also support a setting up of 2 boatyards in Moo 7 Ban Sangka U in Tambon Kor Lanta Yai, Ampur Kor Lanta and Moo 2 Ban Kor Pu, Tambon Sriboya, Ampur Nuer Klong. The management of community's revolving fund and operation of boatyards is under responsibility of the local small-scale fisher groups.

Save Andaman Network has provided assistance in 2 villages. Detail as follows:

1. Contributed 100,000 baht for setting up of a boatyards and another 150,000 baht towards the community's revolving fund in Ban Sang Ga U. At the present, 35 boats have been repaired. In additional to the support given by the Network, there are other contribution derived from tourists and the Community Organization Development Institute (CODI) which was mainly on purchasing equipment for boats building and woods for repairing boat, worth 200,000 baht.

2. Contributed 606,000 baht towards the revolving fund of Ban Kor Por. Boat repairing activities have started and still on going.

At the present time, Save Andaman Network is working in the villages to organize the community, as well as supporting the rehabilitation plans of another 5 affected communities. These are Ban Sriboya, Ban Klong Bin, Ban Hua Lame Nuer, Ban Hua Lame Klang and Ban Klong Tobe.

In regarding to repaying the loan back to the revolving fund, all of these community agreed that once they receive compensation money from the government, they will return this excess suport back to the community's revolving fund.

Tambon Sriboya, Ampur Nuer Klong

200,000 baht was contributed by Save Andaman Network to set up 1 boatyards in Ban Kor Pu as well as additional 1,288,500 baht for the revolving fund. The boatyards is expected to have a capacity in repairing 7 boats and being able to rebuild 5 new boats. Additionally, the network in Krabi also provided a electricity generator to be used in this boatyards too.

Baan Klong Toh

(Tambon Koh Sri Borya, Ampur Nuar Klong)

There are 13 fishing boats in need of repair. The community has successfully repaired a further 9 fishing boats.

A 12-member community committee has been established to coordinate relief efforts. The network has approved the community committee's request for funds to support the repair of fishing boats and fishing boat engines and the purchase of fishing gears.

Baan Koh Phu

(Moo 2, Tambon Koh Sri Borya, Ampur Nuar Klong)

Some 53 households have been affected. In total 4 people have been killed and 1 person has been injured. Just 1 house has been destroyed, a further 13 have sustained damage. The belongings of 3 households have been destroyed, along with 1 electricity generator. Some 50 fishing boats have been destroyed and 4 have been damaged.

The immediate need to repair fishing boats and fishing boat engines is being supported by a number of non-local organizations. A boatyard has been established and 47 boats have been repaired for 3 communities in ampur Nuar Klong.

Baan Sang Ka U

(Moo 7, Tambon Koh Lantha Yai, Ampur Koh Lantha)

Baan Sang Ka U is a village of 85 households and more than 500 people, mostly U-rak-ra-woy sea gypsies engaged in small-scale fishing. Some 14 houses have been destroyed, the rest have sustained minor damage. There has been extensive and irreparable damage to bedding and electrical appliances. Some 73 fishing boats have been destroyed, a further 3 are still missing.

The community is establishing a community committee and developing a long-term community rehabilitation plan. Priorities include purchasing wood, repairing fishing boats and repairing fishing boat engines. A boatyard has been established to serve tambon Koh Lantha Yai and around 100 boats have been repaired.
