ActionAid is looking for teams of young Thai filmmakers to make documentaries about the lives of Moken sea gypsies.

> Teams of up to 3 people aged 18-25 years old.
> Three teams will be selected to receive production budgets of 20,000 baht and will spend 7 days living with Moken communities and filming their documentaries.
> The documentaries will be shown at a theatre in Bangkok and an open-air venue in Ranong.

Field report as confirmed on 31st March, 2005, 57 boats are repaired and 479 boats are still in the progress.


Sunday 13th February 2005

In Ranong, the affected areas cover 5 Tambons and 3 Ampurs. Save Andman Network has been working with the affected communities in setting up boatyards in 5 areas. These are Tambon Rachanukoon in Ampur Muang, Kor Sai Dam community in Tambon Nguay of Ampur Muang, Tambon Muang Klang Community in Ampur Kaper, Kaper Community in Tambon Kaper of Ampur Kaper and Bang Kluy Nok, Tambon Naka of sub-district Suk Samrang.

1. The Community Organization Development Institute (CODI) supported 200,000 baht for purchasing fishing boats.

2. The Ratchakoon Tambon Administrative Organisation has provided labour force to help repairing damaged boats. Presently, some villagers can go to fish.


Tuesday 4th January 2005

General

Altogether, in ampur Kapur, ampur Muang and provisional district Sook Samran, 146 people have been killed and 304 houses, 1,053 fishing boats, 307 aquaculture floating baskets and an unknown quantity of small fishing gears have been damaged.

(Tambon Muangklang, Ampur Kapur; Ampur Kuraburi; Tambon Raja Krud, Ampur Muang)

'The Alternative Agriculture Network of Langsuan', Choomporn and The Community Organizations Development Office (CODI) are coordinating efforts to help the affected communities.

Baan Bangkluay Nok, Baan Bangman and Baan Laemnao; Baan Haadsaikhao, Baan Tabnua, Baan Talay Nok and 3 other villages

(Tambon Nakha; Tambon Kampuan, Provisional District Sook Samran)

All these traditional fisher-folk villages have been severely impacted.

'The Network of the Traditional Fisher-folk of Sook Samran', supported by the district authorities and the Rak Bankerd Foundation, have been providing food, addressing immediate needs and helping rebuild houses and repair fishing boats.
